Osteria Mamma Restaurant Review:

On a Melrose Avenue street corner you'll find this homey trattoria from Filippo Cortivo, whose memorable cooking at Osteria la Buca enchanted Angelenos. (The restaurant got its name from his "Mamma," Loredana Cecchinato, who passed away in late 2015.) The space is split into two dining areas and there's a small bar backed by a display of wine bottles. Lining the walls are vintage family photos and chalkboards listing daily specials. Customers might begin with a tre colori salad of radicchio, Belgian endive, baby arugula and aged Grana Padano, or crostini topped with burrata and black truffles, served with prosciutto on the side. Pastas like linguine alla carbonara and pappardelle al fumo (pink sauce with guanciale, scamorza cheese and oregano) are heartily satisfying. Another winner is the light and moist gnocchi. The thin-crusted pizzas are among the best in town, including one topped with mozzarella, Gorgonzola, bacon and a soft-cooked egg. Desserts include panna cotta, a surprisingly light but generously plated tiramisu, and fruit tarts. The wine list is exclusively Italian.
