If you remember Maple Drive, the restaurant that previously occupied this site, you will not recognize the retooled space at all. If not, you should like the complete, floor-to-ceiling redesign by architect Clive Wilkinson---his first restaurant project. Taken over by chef and restaurateur Joachim Splichal, the space has a unique cachet with vibrant reds and oranges contrasting with the white wavy ceiling and walls. Whether you choose to sit in the bar area, a table or a booth, the design soothes. Executive chef Kevin Meehan executes Splichal’s vision for a contemporary seafood restaurant. As the name suggests, be prepared for a culinary tour of what the ocean has to offer (except for roasted jidori chicken and a rich but satisfying quartet of beef). You can have "raw" tuna carpaccio with balsamic garlic cloves and nasturtium leaves; a "warm" thin-sheathed Maryland blue crab cake and grape ragoût; "chilled" house-cured salmon; Thai snapper "en papillote"; “seared” skate wing “Provencal” with eggplant “caviar,” artichoke hearts, pesto and ratatouille; or “whole” fish, depending on what Meehan finds at the market. For dessert, opt for the milk chocolate mousse-lined domes of banana cake with milk chocolate gelato and a coco nib-crusted tuile. General manager Chris Kulow will be happy to pair your meal with a selection from the short wine list.
