Papilles, Los Angeles, CA

Papilles Restaurant Review

: Entrepreneur Santos Uy presents Papilles, a true charmer with a name that means "taste buds" in French. Expect a weekly-changing prix-fixe menu of French bistro dishes with some sophisticated contemporary accents. Chef Claudio Dell'Anno has taken over the kitchen from Tim Carey. A meal might begin with mushroom velouté or octopus boudin noir with orange and pistachio, followed by a Niman Ranch pork duo with apple purée and confit potato; duck à l’orange; or Tasmanian sea trout with cauliflower, fried capers and tarragon. Finales involve either a cheese plate or well-executed sweets like butterscotch pot de crème or chocolate terrine with crème anglaise. When the season arrives, truffles are available to enhance the experience, and reasonably priced wines from throughout France add to the pleasures of Papilles. With candlelit wood tables and banquettes, and generous art on brightly colored walls, this is an intimate and homey bistro attended to by a gracious staff.
