THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Persephone Restaurant Review:
On a quiet side street convenient to Bloomingdales and Midtown shopping, Persephone offers a peaceful, warmly lit spot for fresh and tasty Greek cuisine. From the same team that introduced Manhattan to the world of Greek dining 20-plus years ago with the West Village’s Periyali, Persephone dishes up traditional meze-like charcoal-grilled octopus set in a lemon emulsion, olive oil-poached tuna, and creamy and tangy tzatziki. From the long list of entrées and sides, try the branzino prepared as Greek seafood should be, grilled whole with just a touch of olive oil and salt and pepper; or the delicate grilled quail adorned with mushrooms, mountain greens and feta cheese. For dessert, we suggest traditional Greek cookies along with the clean taste of Greek yogurt served with spoon fruits and drizzled with honey. While the restaurant offers a nice selection of European wines, no meal here should end without a taste of Greece’s brandy, Metaxa.
