![]() : Founder Richard Thomas passed away in early 2017, leaving granddaughter Jackie Hardin in charge. She diligently preserves his bird menagerie, whose raucous greetings ring out from their cages lining the walkway from the steep parking lot. Random folk art from whirligigs to totems made from discarded metal containers and an unsigned flag composition composed of found wood dot the space. The dining room is an enclosed former patio that clings precariously to its sidewalk spot. The lengthy menu satisfies a wide range of culinary requirements, from vegetarian to vegan to gluten-free, and plain old hunger. There's no place better for recovering from a raucous night on the town having indulged in too much adult beverage. Breakfast is served all day, and the french toast is the most popular offering, says Hardin. Burgers (made with beef from grass-fed cattle raised without hormones and antibiotics), the stuffed baked potatoes, the smoothies and salads remain top draws. We like the root vegetable salad as a different side item with the burger. There are a few wines of little note and beers. The restaurant only closes one day a month (usually a Monday) from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. for maintenance. |
