THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Recess Eatery Restaurant Review:

Patina alum chef Sevan Azarian and his wife, Tamar Kevonian, have made the handsome Recess Eatery one of the most beguiling spots in Highland Park. The sprawling restaurant, crafted in a lovingly-restored 1929 building, offers two patios --- one along York Avenue, lively and great for people-watching --- and the other in back, shaded by olive trees and more romantic with strings of lights and a crackling fireplace. The dining room is high and airy, with miles of exposed brick, wooden beams and the sheen and sparkle of wood and glass. It’s kid-friendly (each table has its own outlet), but at night, also expect an artsy local Eastside scene at the long bar. Rightly so, as the craft cocktails here can rival those at most any chic downtown joint. The Heliocentric with mezcal, gin, ginger, lemon, honey and turmeric is particularly alluring. Graze on fried cauliflower, seared ahi or falafel kissed with harissa and mint; or spread out at a long communal table with friends and tuck into an unpretentious New American menu that includes savory braised short ribs on piquant horseradish mashed potatoes, juicy pan-roasted Mary’s chicken, pastas and salads. For “extra credit,” the labneh cheesecake and salted caramel panna cotta receive top marks.
