The Restaurant at The Standard, Los Angeles, CA

The Restaurant at The Standard Restaurant Review

: Considering it’s a popular venue, the staff displays none of the snobbish attitude of the bouncers outside. The clientele is predominantly young and cool, undoubtedly headed for the rooftop bar or Biergarten after their meal to check out the scene. The restaurant has elements of a diner --- plush booths, burgers, fries and banana splits --- but that's where the small-town-USA references end. Plush, modular shapes are used in place of wallpaper, and a cocktail is usually chosen over a cup of coffee. The menu includes satisfying dishes such as charred octopus with bacon and black beans, and black gnocchi with arugula, English peas and mixed mushrooms. Duck fat mashed potatoes, truffle fries and lobster mac ‘n’ cheese update diner classics with a touch of luxe. The wine list offers interesting boutique choices. The fare is well prepared and reasonably priced for such a chic environment, ideal for tipsy hotel guests in the wee hours or downtown conference-goers seeking a hearty breakfast. Also located at 8300 W. Sunset Blvd. on the Sunset Strip.
