SPQR Restaurant Review:

The team behind A16 has the Midas touch when it comes to regional Italian restaurants. This venture is a casually charming, 45-seat osteria with Roman-inspired cuisine, offering a buzzing ambience popular with locals. Talented chef Matt Accarrino's dishes are fired with speed and precision in the tiny exhibition kitchen. Portions might be small but tend to be rich. Case in point: the full impact of the giant raviolo topped with truffle makes its mark after only a few bites. A crispy pig’s ear is deeply satisfying, its saltiness cleverly balanced with jammy pickled jalapeño. Pork and pickling come together again in the suckling pork confitura with pickled vegetables, charred vegetable sauce and red mustard. Pastas are hearty and robust, such as the saffron rotini with veal Bolognese. Adding further sultry Italian flavor are desserts like a persimmon torta with eucalyptus gelato. The wine list includes 25-plus Italian wines by the taste, glass and carafe, plus many more by the bottle.
