![]() : As Long Island's only Belgian eatery, Waterzooi fills a niche and does it well, especially when it comes to its seemingly endless list of Belgian brews. Not sure the Chimay goes well with the moules? Servers take pride in suggesting the right complement for each course. Mussels are the specialty of the house and are served steamed in three-pound pots filled to the brim, accompanied by crisp frites and a homemade garlic mayonnaise. While there are many varieties of mussels, don't miss out on the farmhouse ale-simmered version with smoked bacon or the spicy Calabrian mussels. Other recommended dishes include carbonade flamande, a tender, beer-braised stew, or the namesake waterzooi, a pot roast of lobster and assorted seafood with a tarragon fennel broth and potatoes. Oyster fans should check out the oyster bar, with constantly changing varieties. And don't even think about going home before trying a sweet waffle or a Belgian chocolate soufflé. Those who don't like beer might opt for the Tuesday night global three-course dinner with wine pairings. |
