As Long Island's only Belgian eatery, Waterzooi fills a niche and does it well, especially when it comes to its seemingly endless list of Belgian brews. Not sure the Chimay goes well with the moules? The servers take pride in suggesting the right complement for each course. Mussels are the specialty of the house and are served steamed in three-pound pots filled to the brim, accompanied by crisp frites and a homemade garlic mayonnaise. While there are many varieties of mussels to choose from, we suggest the Homard, served with lobster cream sauce and scallions. Other recommended dishes include the sweet potato gnocchi, placed atop risotto and crisp broccoli rabe; and the fall-off-the-bone Rib Stuk. And don't even think about going home before trying a sweet waffle or a Belgian chocolate soufflé.
