Zell's is the kind of homey café where your coffee mug will be refilled even before you put it back down on the table, and you're served homemade mini scones with raspberry jam as soon as you're seated. It's definitely a place to linger over big plates of traditional breakfast food, which can then be followed with either a long walk or a nap. If you aren't carb-phobic, pancakes are probably the best choice, particularly the giant, eggy German-style variety that draws aficionados from all over the city. The almost-as-large-as-a-plate apple pancake is equally delectable. Omelets are also standouts, and range from salmon to interesting vegetable combos. Accompany your breakfast with a Bloody Mary or mimosa. The lunch menu includes classic all-American options such as burgers, club sandwiches, Cobb salad or potatoes topped with cheese. Everyone is friendly, and if a wait is required, there are scores of newspapers and magazines to ease you through the time-out.
