24 Restaurant Review

About the restaurant & décor: Prolific chef Jose Garces hits on a great formula with 24 --- he’s created the kind of restaurant that accommodates early family dinners, business lunches and romantic brunches alike. The street-level industrial space is expansive yet warm, with wood accents balancing out the concrete pillars and exposed ductwork.

Likes: Service; kid-friendly; ambience; salads.
Dislikes: Limited menu.

Food & Drinks: The cuisine comes from the wood-fired grill, with a definitive Italian accent. That means small plates like roasted peppers with currants, pine nuts and goat cheese; luscious meatballs; and Taleggio melting into polenta with egg and tomato conserve. Mains are limited to pizza and pasta, but both manage to inject some creativity into the proceedings. Cacio and pepe spaghetti has sunchokes, for instance, while the clam pizza incorporates kale, scamorza and Parmesan cream. Desserts are simple: gelatos, affogatos and mascarpone panna cotta served with chocolate mousse and pistachio. House cocktails stick with the Italian theme, with plenty of amaros, and the fully Italian wine list includes some surprises. Visit at happy hour for $5 beer, $6 wines by the glass and $9 pizza.
