Gary and Beth Taylor opened this little charmer in 2003, but it's really been since chef Derek Barnes departed and left whipper-snapper Adam Straatman at the helm that greater Sarasota really sat up and took notice. Independent-minded, with a great sense of fun, Straatman pushes himself with a daily changing menu that might include pan-roasted quail with tarragon, green grapes and verjus on a warm arugula, potato and baby artichoke salad. Or maybe he'll get it in his mind to offer up house-made chèvre gnocchi sautéed with fava beans, oyster mushrooms and thyme on a roasted red pepper coulis, followed by a sophisticated but homey pear and hazelnut crisp with buttermilk ice cream. The restaurant's location, adjacent to the Burns Court Cinema, makes it a perfect dinner-and-a-movie option.
