Accanto Restaurant Review: Originally Genoa's "casual sister," Accanto has grown more costly and sophisticated over the years, while still retaining its informal vibe. A destination to enjoy cocktails or a full meal, this glassed-in storefront café offers diners a pleasant view of busy Belmont Street. The menu riffs off traditional Italian cooking while incorporating Northwest elements. Dishes such as halibut poached in whey, and baked asparagus with ricotta salata, mint and sherry vinegar are typical. Don't miss the fritto misto, a light, crackling mix of prawns, calamari, lemon slices, fennel and whole olives. Or choose the charcuterie plate featuring artisan-cured meats and cheeses from around the world. For something more substantial, order the squid ink spaghetti, or the hearty roasted half chicken with mashed potatoes and Calabrian chile sauce. The popular weekend brunch goes beyond the ordinary, proposing appetizing selections such as smoked trout hash, a hangtown fry with duck eggs, and most notably, ricotta donuts. Libations range from craft cocktails, standout wines, microbrews, and several refreshing hard ciders.
