Acropolis Cuisine Restaurant Review: At this modest Metairie café, the décor instantly reveals the Greek focus of the kitchen. Classical Greek colors --- blue and white --- shine as azure highlights beam over whitewashed walls, adorned with inspiring travel posters of the Greek Isles. The dining room thus provides the archetypal setting for such traditional dishes as roasted and skewered meats, daily fish specials and avgolemono --- the classic egg-and-lemon soup. Grape leaves stuffed with rice and marinated in lemon juice and olive oil remain admirably firm, and an unusually creamy feta cheese crowns salads that are large enough to feed a Greek chorus. Oh, and about the Italian offerings: Acropolis produces a lasagna that could hold its own with any Italian restaurant in town, and we also like the pizza and the feta cheese ravioli. The wine list has an interesting variety of Greek wines. For dessert, go for the baklava. |
