| Walk past the iron gate and into a small foyer to discover a romantic Italian bistro. Beyond the large antique sideboard is a quaint dining room decorated with brick and Tuscan-yellow walls framed by dark wood. The Pioneer Square restaurant is lit with heavy glass votive candles and vintage chandeliers. To entice diners, the kitchen turns out classic Italian-inspired dishes including pasta, fresh seafood and seasonal specials. Antipasti change daily, while the hearty osso buco is an enduring crowd-pleaser. Seafood is a mainstay, with dishes such as gamberoni al vino bianco, wild Gulf prawns prepared in tomato, garlic and white wine atop a bed of spinach. Bistecca alla fiorentina --- a huge porterhouse steak, ideal for sharing --- is seasoned with olive oil, herbs and pepper. When tomatoes are in season, be sure to order the insalata caprese to enjoy tomatoes with peak garden-fresh flavor. Beer and wine are served, with an adequate selection of both. Our choice for ending on a sweet note: the silky vanilla and caramel custard. |
