| Right in the thick of Portland’s Old Town, the Alexis offers a bright and fun dining experience brimming with warm Greek service and traditional dishes. The servers---many of whom have worked here for decades---are personable; they’ll entertain your baby and make conversation with everyone at the table. Ordering the combination platters or family-style is the best option for large groups so that many dishes may be sampled. Favorites are the garlicky tzatziki, lemony hummus, crispy fried squid, satiny-smooth melitzano, and tender cubes of grilled lamb. In a nice change from the standard pita bread, Alexis stocks tables with baskets of its own hearty, thickly-crusted bread. For beverages, choose from a range of retsinas, ouzo, wine and beer. And for dessert? Sweet, flaky baklava, of course. |
