This beef stand is a bastion of Chicago's Little Italy (and beyond, since there are many offshoots). As is par for the course at such joints, the meat is roasted on site and sliced super thin, its flavor---to us, at least---peculiarly sweet. Then, it’s heaped onto soft bread. Even though it's not our first choice for beef, we'll admit Al's has great fries. Italian sausages, seen sizzling on the grill, are awfully tempting, too. Although the menu doesn’t offer much more, you can get nibbles like tamales and Chicago-style hot dogs as well.
