THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED LOCATIONS Alta CA Restaurant Review

: Since Alta CA was funded at least partially from investments from Twitter (and former Twitter) wealth, it's no surprise that this venture from Daniel Patterson is often deep with young tech and related luminaries. The ambience is clean-rustic with lots of exposed and reclaimed wood and a central bar as a primary focus. House-made and barrel-aged cocktails run from the interesting to the eccentric --- we had several variations on "pickle juice" or flavors, including a drink called the "Bread & Butter." A bit longer on style than substance, the menu ranges from hip, but well-practiced, items such as the dill-pickled deviled eggs to distinctive beef tendon puffs, a take on pork rinds appropriate as a bar snack and more semi-addictive than independently enjoyable. Smoked pork trotter with slow egg is a typical offering, almost current but just a bit contrived and past the trend. Hen of the woods mushroom on cracked-wheat porridge with shaved cheese is a hearty, risotto-like standout optimal for a chilly day. Go for the scene and the drinks, knowing dinner is available. Dessert is limited to various toppings on soft serve ice cream, or a trio of chocolate chip cookies.
