THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Far from a cookie-cutter dal house, this eatery has to be one of the prettiest restaurants in Greater Hartford, Indian or otherwise. Brightly colored wall paintings, shiny copper lamps, and white tablecloths under neat table settings immediately mark the eatery as a serious, elegant dining destination. And, in fact, it is. Ambassador eschews the indiscriminate gravies of your average Indian eatery to treat food as a thing of beauty and, above all, taste. Only consider the first-rate breads, pulled puffing and hissing from the tandoor oven---an oven that also produces salmon, chicken and lamb, which emerge moist and expertly seasoned. Speaking of seasoning, the kitchen has a way with spices that invigorates its sauces and rubs. Hence, though there are only a few five-alarm dishes, flavors are plenty bold; indeed, vegetable dishes are particularly good here as well, among them some intriguing choices not often found, like potato-and-pea-stuffed peppers.
