Sometimes you just need a good piece of lasagna. When you find yourself in such a fix, you could do worse than to point your car toward Amerigo. This is a link in a regional chain with locations in Tennessee and Mississippi, but its well-chosen dishes offer plenty of bang for the buck. The wood-fired pizzas are good; choose from a range going from classic tomato-and-cheese to smoked chicken and spinach with sun-dried tomato. The pasta section of the menu is by the book; to wit, you’ll find wild mushroom ravioli, gemelli with sausage and cream and, of course, vermicelli pomodoro. One aspect of the wine list we enjoy is the $24 value bottle section; otherwise, it’s somewhat limited. Dessert hews to the same conservative tune as the rest of the menu, so you’ve got tiramisu, cheesecake, gelato and bread pudding. There’s not a thing wrong with that.

Italian at its best

I come to Amerigo often because their food is authentic, fresh and always delicious. I have tried several dishes on the menu, and have never had a poor experience. The service is always right on point. They also have live music a couple of days a week, which makes for nice ambiance with a glass of wine.
