The first successful French restaurant in Las Vegas, André's, located since 1980 in a former residence decorated to replicate a comfortable French country-house, has stood the test of time. Its cozy rooms and alcoves are beautifully furnished with the charm of a bygone era. That isn't the only charm: André is happy to show off his 1,250-label wine cellar with its domestic and imported bottles dating back to as early as the 1830s. They complement his imaginative cuisine featuring appetizers such as traditional French-imported escargots de Bourgogne in garlic butter and herbs, and smoked Pacific Northwest salmon with a chive crêpe purse, celery root rémoulade and rye bread. We also like the salad of phyllo-wrapped baked Anjou pear and Roquefort with spicy walnuts and pumpkin seed vinaigrette. Moulard duck l’orange---pan-seared breast with duck jus bigarade, a bitter orange-stuffed leg and kabocha squash---is a winner, as is the dual preparation of Cervena venison and braised osso buco with sauce poivrade, cabbage and chestnut sausage. Finish your meal with a pastry or a chocolate or Grand Marnier soufflé. Al fresco patio dining surrounded by lush plants is a seasonal option.
