The team that also owns Atlanta’s Marlow’s Taverns blends the sushi experience with steak and seafood. While we find the rolls a bit overplayed for the purist and more appropriate for someone who might be skittish about sushi, the sashimi offerings are pure pleasure, especially the white tuna, a solid slice of firm, sweet flesh presented simply. Appetizers large enough to share include the spicy Firecracker Chicken, presented in a Chinese take-out box with chopsticks. But we would skip the calamari, served without tentacles and in a far-too-overwhelming sauce obliterating the flavor of the calamari. In general, the kitchen's strengths lie in simply prepared dishes, such as the miso-glazed sea bass with bok choy and a light, flavorful broth---both healthy and tasty. We think one should skip most meats here; the pork chop is tough and dry, and not saved by either its toss of onion rings encircling the bone or the peppercorn sauce. For dessert opt for a slice of coconut cake, large enough to satisfy a table of four. The wine list contains some good options, but it’s tough generally to find selections to pair with the dishes. |
