Araka is a prime spot for a night out, whether that means indulging in a meal or sipping cocktails at the bar while taking in the Clayton nightlife scene. A worldly influence adds exotic touches to the menu, including delicacies like foie gras and house-made chorizo, but much of the menu is firmly American, be it roasted Amish chicken or New York strip steak. Local producers have a friend in executive chef Steven Caravelli. Desserts are creative riffs on American classics (strawberry shortcake with balsamic vinegar, a chocolate chip cookie tart with bourbon and caramel gelato). There are two wine lists (one is for dessert), each with extensive selections in all price ranges. The restaurant is designed to be inviting---warm walnut contrasts with cool stone and edgy chandeliers hang above gently curving walls, lending intimacy to what could be just a large space.
