 Asada Laguna Restaurant Review: Set among the hum of activity on Coast Highway and armed with a patio view of the Pacific Ocean, Asada Laguna does a nice job respecting the spirit and history of the space’s former occupant, Javier’s Cantina. This reverence serves as a launching point for its own study of Mexican cuisine, which blends classic and forward-thinking culinary motifs with an emphasis on house-made ingredients. The chunky, zesty guacamole that accompanies seasoned, subtly spicy chips is evidence of this mindset. Other starters such as the chipotle prawns cooked in garlic and white wine display the kitchen’s skill in nudging the boundaries of Mexican cooking. Entrées like the carne asada and carnitas display a proper treatment of traditional dishes. Be sure to save room for the massive, rich chocolate diablo cake. The lively tequila bar, which dominates the center of the restaurant, is the source of good drinks.
