Agricola Restaurant Review:

Agricola’s cuisine finds an appropriate setting in a remodeled former landmark Princeton restaurant, Lahiere’s, where Albert Einstein was known to dine. Its manners then were French and fussy. Now the place features less formality and more stylishly rural flair with rough-hewn beams, exposed brick walls, wood ceilings, and an expansive pewter bar. Seating at tables and booths is divided among seven dining areas on two floors. “Agricola” means “farmer” in Latin, and it is farmers who inspire the rustic American menu prepared in modern, fresh and creative ways. Choose from dishes such as North Carolina striped bass served with an earthy chowder; Creekstone Farms boneless rib-eye steak with roasted fingerling potatoes, peppers and rosemary; or a rich roasted butternut squash soup topped with maple crème fraîche. Desserts intrigue; try the Great Road Farm beet poached pear with chocolate ice cream. The well-chosen wine list is heavy on mid-priced West Coast vintages. There’s also an engaging cocktail inventory --- The Last Word is made with Farmer’s organic gin, chartreuse, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur and lime. A bright and accommodating staff provides very good service.
