This North County restaurant offers upscale seasonal American food and value wine --- more than 30 choices by the glass change weekly, so it's a good place to expand one's wine palate. The menu includes dishes like a tapas trio (andouille sausage, marinated Spanish olives and bacon-wrapped dates) and filet mignon bites served on a bed of mashed potatoes and topped with a strip of melted Brie. Entrées such as Kobe-style top sirloin with lobster mashed potatoes, or braised short ribs with white beans will appeal to carnivores, while truffle mushroom risotto is a tasty option for vegetarians. Happy hours feature wine flights and nibbles from grilled flatbread with sun-dried tomato tapenade, kalamata olive tapenade and fried goat cheese, to pan-seared crab cakes. Desserts are a highlight, especially the warm brioche bread pudding with mixed berry compote and vanilla bean gelato, ideal with a glass of Tokaji Aszu.
