India House Restaurant Review:

Long a downtown fixture, India House continues to turn out quality Indian food. The style is primarily Northern Indian, which leans towards rich, creamy and saucy. Happily, India House's 12-course buffet is better than most and draws a loyal coterie of downtown office workers and shoppers. Unlike many such establishments, the restaurant does not feature its less desirable dishes on the buffet serving table. Instead, there's a reasonable sampling of authentic items similar to those available among the dinner selection. One might encounter an incendiary chicken vindaloo, plus lighter vegetarian fare such as aloo saag (spinach and potatoes) or Punjabi chickpeas. At dinner, you may choose among the usual range of curries, tandoori kebabs and biryani. Don't miss the novel cherry naan. Amenities are fairly basic, although friendly servers always make anyone feel welcome. The lunch crowd is all a-bustle (an à la carte menu is also available), while the evening is more sedate. India House offers food to go.
