Liuzza's Restaurant & Bar Restaurant Review:

Restaurants have come and gone over the decades, but this one shows what staying power is all about. When Liuzza's Restaurant & Bar first opened its doors, Harry Truman had been president for two years. Not much has changed since then. In the main dining room neighborhood types gather at tightly packed Formica-topped tables to enjoy a wide range of casual New Orleans Italian-Creole and Southern standards, ranging from fried green tomatoes with shrimp rémoulade to something called the "Frenchuletta," a huge, rough-made muffuletta on French bread. First-time visitors should remember these words: “I’ll have the lasagna please.” The po' boy sandwiches bulge with fried oysters or shrimp, to be savored with icy, frozen mugs of draft beer. Pasta laden with artichoke hearts and pepperoni and Theresa Liuzza's bread pudding also rate among the signatures. The place is known as well for its “fishbowl” size cold beer and an irresistible peanut butter pie for dessert. Don’t look for a wine list, but there’s a tiny separate bar that also doubles as an area to wait for an available table.
