You won’t find a lot of barbecue restaurants in Uptown New Orleans, but Saucy’s fills the void. Its small storefront location has a woody, homey atmosphere and the menu offers all of the usual suspects: ribs, pulled pork, brisket, sausage and chicken. But some unexpected treats include a chicken quesadilla and boudin (a type of Cajun sausage popular in Louisiana). The same goes for the sides; yes, you'll find smoked beans, baked macaroni, potato salad and the like, but you can also select grilled asparagus, and a special mac 'n' cheese made with goat cheese. Your server will bring a choice of half a dozen sauces for your meats, but the house tomato/vinegar-based Carolina-style version is by far the best. The perfect ending to a meal is the chocolate peanut butter Thunder Cake. This is a BYOB establishment; there’s a modest five dollar corkage fee for wines.
