| Under the watchful eye of David Sweeney, formerly chef at his own Dynamic Dish restaurant, The Bakery at Cakes & Ale promises to step out of the shadow of its more well known sibling (Cakes & Ale) and develop a reputation of its own. That fame will come from its fine breads and other baked treats. But then there are the salads, grain bowls and sandwiches that rise above the crowd with vigor and distinction. The grain bowl, which changes daily, is especially worthy, healthful as well as flavorful. We recommend the version that layers the textures and flavors of quinoa, pink-eye peas, roasted corn, toasted flax and caraway seeds, feta, peppers, scallions and parsley. Get some bread and butter to go with it, and what more do you need? Beer and wine also may be enjoyed, and, of course, there's no end to the sweet finishes in this stylish operation. |
