Bambou Asian Tapas & Bar Restaurant Review: With a dramatic red bar and floor offset by muted beige walls, Bambou offers a subdued yet stylish setting for its menu of Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other Asian fare. Regional standards are available, as well as inventive and sometimes quirky flavor combinations that nevertheless work. Well-rendered dishes include sesame honey barbecue spareribs and soft shell crab tempura (a whole crab served with a mango salsa dipping sauce for a welcome touch of sweetness). Vegetarian rolls get a creative twist --- try the wild mushroom roll topped with sweet potato tempura or the peanut butter and jelly roll, which also works well as a dessert option. Classic Japanese izakaya fare, such as the yaki udon sautéed with black pepper sauce with a choice of vegetables, chicken, beef or seafood, is similarly well executed. |
