Bangkok Alley Restaurant Review: Bangkok Alley’s downtown location --- one of the independently owned restaurant’s four Memphis branches --- caters to both the business lunch crowd and those wishing to enjoy a nice evening meal before hitting the entertainment district. Attractively plated Thai dishes, such as sea bass with chili sauce or panang curry, are served in the small but sophisticated dining room. The menu also features a decent assortment of sushi rolls boasting names with local flavor, such as the Memphis (shrimp tempura, crab, mayo, eel and cucumber) or the Southaven (crawfish, teriyaki beef and scallion, named for the nearby town of Southaven, Mississippi). The friendly staff is knowledgeable about the menu and more than happy to offer suggestions to those new to Thai or Japanese cuisine. The wine selection is decent and includes some organic options. For dessert, try the mango pie, a flan-like cheesecake served with mango sorbet and sweet coconut milk. |
