 Barcelona Restaurant & Wine Bar, with its sturdy wooden seating and dark leather booths, oozes warmth, its atmosphere conducive to intimate celebrations among friends. Its Spanish-Med menu, meanwhile, reads like that of a cevicheria gone upscale, with an extensive selection of tapas. Of these, we suggest the cuttlefish, tender and judiciously seasoned with garlic, lemon and pepper, along with the crispy calamari served with smoked tomato aïoli. The small plates are exactly that and meant to be shared, so ordering several is the key. We also like the mix-and-match charcuterie: while the sheep's milk cheeses can be overpowering, the cantimpalo (a dry-cured chorizo) and the jamón Serrano are of good quality. For a sampling of the local Spanish take on the standard fried potatoes, add the papas bravas with spicy tomato sauce and lemon aïoli. For a tapas portion of something more delicate and usually only available as an entrée, try the pan-seared monkfish medallions with roasted vegetables. With more than 30 wines by the glass and an emphasis on some of the more obscure Spanish and Latin varietals, the wine list is worth a good look, too.
