Barney's Only Place in Town Restaurant Review: Owned by restaurateurs Michael and Bill Kefalas (Barney’s Ltd. in Old Pasadena), this Sierra Madre landmark delights a loyal clientele of locals with an enormous menu that ranges from Americana comfort food classics to Spanish paella. The breakfasts --- items like blueberry-stuffed french toast, eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, and a chicken sausage, green onion and havarti cheese omelet --- are consistently satisfying. Lunches revolve around big sandwiches ranging from pork tenderloin and apricot glaze on ciabatta to a beef and lamb gyro with tzatziki in pita bread. The mac ‘n’ cheese, prepared with cheddar and Fontina, can be enhanced with honey-cured apple wood-smoked bacon, while crispy fish ‘n’ chips is made with halibut. Desserts include house-made ice creams and a respectable Boston cream pie. A pair of dining rooms offers worn brick-clad walls, cozy high-backed booths and vintage photos of Sierra Madre. A small selection of beer and wine is also available. |
