Basil Tomatoes Italian Grille Restaurant Review: If you’re craving hearty Northern Italian food on the west side, this cozy restaurant is worth trying---if you stick to the right dishes. Tucked away near the Ka’anapali north golf course, and near the entrance of the Royal Lahaina Resort, this casual establishment offers a large selection of pastas, seafood and other satisfying entrées. For starters, the steamed Washington State clams are a winner, served in a buttery white wine broth. The filet mignon carpaccio, topped with pesto and capers, is also good here. For the main course, enjoy the Italian sausage and pasta, which has a flavorful spicy kick. The classic chicken Parmigiana is tender and large enough to share. Keep an eye out for entrées that feature the Olowalu Nui farm vine-ripened hydroponic tomatoes, such as the garlicky shrimp scampi---these tomatoes are richly flavored and fresh-tasting, and will more than make your meal. Although the Colorado Spring lamb chops may be recommended, they could arrive overcooked. Dessert may also disappoint---the bananas Foster may arrive at the table with the ice cream looking quite soupy. Despite the uneven timing of some dishes, service is attentive. For the best results, stick to the classic Italian fare such as pastas, pizzas and seafood. |
