With its park-like setting and oceanfront location, The Beach Grill at Padaro is an ideal spot for families. The menu, while not particularly special, has something for everyone: from basic salads to Baja-style burgers topped with mild green chilies and guacamole. The atmosphere, however, gives this Santa Claus Lane restaurant its true appeal. Kids frolic barefoot on a sprawling lawn or play in a riptide-free sandbox full of toys; the real beach is just steps away. Daily specials on the blackboard occasionally make a stab at creativity, but in general this is a place for simple California fare. If the grill is smoking, go for the traditional Santa Maria-style tri tip sandwich, served on a soft potato bun with a side of salsa. A wide range of pizza is available, too, giving the menu a bit of a twist and adding to the festive atmosphere.
