Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29, New Orleans, LA

Beachbum Berry's Latitude 29 Restaurant Review

About the décor: Latitude 29 is a tiki-themed space on the ground floor of a French Quarter hotel. Detailed wood carvings, grasscloth-covered walls, comfortable furniture, and whimsical and colorful lighting entice guests to take a seat and stay a while.

Likes: The happy environment.
Dislikes: Drinks are a bit pricey, but you are in the French Quarter, after all.

Food & Drinks: Owner Jeff Berry prides himself on years of "research" that have resulted in the unique cocktails on offer. Try the "Navy Grog," which Berry claims was Frank Sinatra's favorite drink; it blends two rums with allspice, grapefruit and lime. Or share an “Aquadisiac” with your dining partner, a cocktail for two that features old Barbados rum and Blue Curaçao, lemon, almond, caraway and Bénédictine. And don't overlook the food. From the pork and ginger dumpling burger appetizer to the Tahitian steak frites, and pork slow braised in coconut milk, the menu rocks. Sips are served in just the right glasses or other containers by bartenders wearing brightly hued island garb. Wines are very limited, but you came here for the rum beverages, remember? Best of all is the Doberge cake from local sweets spot Debbie Does Doberge.
