Dining room at Beast, Portland, OR

Beast Restaurant Review

: Dine at Beast to immerse yourself in chef Naomi Pomeroy's view of cuisine; there’s a poster hanging in her kitchen saying "Praise the Lard." This leads to such creations as the foie gras bonbon, a standard treat with the six-course, prix-fixe meal (offered at two seatings each week). Meals are prepared family style, not to order. This system doesn't allow for substitutions, so come prepared for an interesting ride. Carefully selected wine pairings may (and should) be added. Pomeroy has a classical French cooking background that’s influenced by her enthusiasm for Oregon’s bounty. One may typically encounter a tomato, ham and white bean soup; a charcuterie plate; guanciale-stuffed local quail; radicchio and Belgian endive in a preserved lemon pistachio vinaigrette; an array of cheeses; and a kumquat and brown butter tartlet. A similarly lavish, four-course brunch is offered on Sundays. The kitchen is open to the attractive, intimate dining room, where all meals are served at two long, dark wood tables, so expect to engage in conversation with your neighbors.
