Benvenuti's Ristorante Restaurant Review: Whether seated in the romantically lit bar area or the more casual second dining room, Benvenuti’s offers metro area diners an array of skillfully prepared, updated Italian dishes. Enjoy the light, fresh calamari or the arugula salad to start, the latter boasting pine nuts, capers and a goat cheese crostini. Mains include a selection of pizzas with familiar flavor combinations and a little special something, including house-made sausage with mushrooms and jalapeños, or artichokes and spinach with a drizzle of truffle oil. The real star here is the pasta, though, as it should be, with relatively simple components --- mushroom rigatoni in a pink cream sauce, and the tongue-in-cheek “Pasta from Hell,” with an assortment of spicy peppers --- elevated with quality Italian ingredients and chef Anthony Compagni’s attention to fine detail. Specialty cocktails and a large wine selection with over 150 choices make Benvenuti’s a great date spot.
