Bhan Thai Restaurant Review: Bhan Thai has the look and feel of a private home since it’s located in a converted historic house in Midtown’s Central Gardens neighborhood. The ambience is comfortable yet elegant, making it appropriate for both casual dinners and dates. Trees and wooden fence shield the large shaded patio from the nearby street, an element that gives the spot a “secret garden” vibe. Dishes are particularly saucy, but the sweet-spicy flavors tempt some diners to scoop up any leftover liquid with a spoon at the end of their meal. All curries, like the popular panang curry, may be served with a choice of chicken, beef, pork or tofu. Most preparations contain fish sauce, so vegetarians should inquire about options upon ordering. The wine choices are decent, and Bhan Thai carries a nice selection of handcrafted beers. Those wishing to bring their own wine pay a small corkage fee. For dessert, try the sticky rice with custard and coconut milk.
