Comfortable and classy, Akron’s Big City Chophouse---one of the outlets of a locally based chain---features soaring ceilings, warm lighting, and an eclectic, contemporary soundtrack. "Great Steaks, Authentic Italian" is the kitchen's motto, although the influences hardly stop there. At lunch there's everything from an Asian-inspired ahi salad to a spicy, Creole-style salmon atop seasoned rice (but there are no steaks at this time). Among the more interesting mains on the dinner menu is a filet medallion trio accented, individually, with: onions, peppers and a balsamic reduction; grilled shrimp and lime aïoli; and baby spinach, garlic and mozzarella. Other finds include steakhouse standards like a hearty, bone-in rib-eye, and a tender, juicy, 14-ounce New York strip steak. On the Italian end of the spectrum, expect veal cannelloni and penne bolognese. The service shines here: tabletops get crumbed regularly, water glasses are refilled frequently, and emptied plates quickly disappear.
