| THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES TO PHIL & DEREK’S RESTAURANT & WINE BAR. The Gardens of Bammel Lane is a charming historical swathe of botanicals in the midst of River Oaks where Bistro Calais, a restaurant that occupies the 1880-era De Chaumes Cottage on the grounds, turns out delightful food in a romantic setting. Owner and executive chef Phillip Mitchell combines his French training with his Cajun roots to create a weekly-changing menu of everything from rabbit stew to spicy gumbo. Look for his juicy cheeseburgers plated with herb-drenched fries or the seasonal fried green tomato salad topped with crawfish rémoulade. The back room overlooks a garden with a fountain, English greenhouse and gazebo. Additionally, there's lively cabaret on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. |
