Bistro Soori Restaurant Review:

Singaporean architect Soo Khian Chan missed the creative and fresh tastes from the kitchen of Alila Villas Soori, the resort he designed along Bali's rugged black sand shores. So he built an urban interpretation downstairs beneath his Chinatown office using similarly rustic woods and neutral hued textiles to evoke a modern tropical ambience. Bar counter seats look into the shiny kitchen while a large marble communal dining table receives natural light from an air well above, making it a popular spot for the architects who work upstairs and pop down with their drawings. Start with creative salads like the scallops, pistachio pesto, arugula and vinegar pear jelly in truffle vinaigrette, or the sautéed garlic prawn salad. Among the mains, calorie counting diners will be satisfied with the grilled fish sprinkled with fennel, tamarind and Thai basil, or the baked Chilean sea bass with mushrooms and broccoli. On more indulgent days, we like the roast pork tenderloin with braised red cabbage, grain mustard, golden raisins and sliced pears as well as the linguine, prawns, garlic, olive oil and fresh chilies. Coffees are some of the finest in Chinatown; sip yours while tasting the pandan soufflé or the poached pear in red wine.
