| This stylish sushi bar brings to mind L.A. in the '80s---it's truly a dining "experience." Sleek lacquered wood and traditional saké pots are set against giant video screens playing Japanese animation. Add a pulsing techno soundtrack and you're blown away before you've taken your seat. The restaurant's name alludes to its dish of northern puffer, a harmless cousin to the poisonous fugu. Sushi plates shine over other menu items. Choose from rolls with inventive names like $o$uMI---that's the 'so sue me'---with spicy tuna, crab, red onion, shrimp tempura and spicy aïoli. Or try sashimi---we like the "enlightened" options like seared white tuna topped with crunchy sriracha bits, fried chilies and ponzu sauce. Unless you're young and exceedingly hip, be sure to pack earplugs to improve your dining experience. |
