| Though the funky feel of this remodeled motel coffee shop is starting to look a bit tired, it’s still somehow totally appropriate for the “laissez les bon temps rouler” attitude---where else this side of N’awlins can you try such fare as alligator, frogs’ legs and fried okra? Purists might quibble at the presentation of some dishes, but this is still some of the most authentic Cajun-Creole food you’ll find around these parts. For an over-the-top breakfast, try the pain perdu, which swims in honey rum sauce and is generously topped with roasted pecans, or just opt for some eggs with andouille sausage. Lunch offers up po’ boys and gut-busting muffalettas, but we like tucking into a bowl of the spicy Creole jambalaya. Dinner favorites include everything from chicken-fried pork loin to crawfish etouffée, but it’s hard to beat the blackened salmon with zesty Creole mustard sauce washed down with a bottle of Abita beer. Bread pudding and sweet potato pie are dessert options. |
