A bourbon enthusiast visiting Louisville with only one evening to dine out must make this the destination of choice. It will be next to impossible to decide which of the 130-plus bourbons, from mainstream to rare, to sample. As for chef Michael Crouch’s menu, portions are generous, so consider a couple of appetizers instead of a starter and entrée. Among first courses are duck confit strudel, pork belly with bourbon guava coulis, spicy crawfish with roasted corn cream and lobster grilled cheese. The wine list is very good, but if you are going to order beef, consider opting for bourbon with the grilled tenderloin filet, rib-eye (topped with sea salt bourbon butter) or the stacked house burger. Bourbon is not abandoned when it comes to dessert, either. The seasonally changing bread pudding always features bourbon, and the Bluegrass Bourbon Blackbottom Baba (the B-5) comes with bourbon in the crème anglaise and the caramel sauces that accompany it. The handsome bar is made of polished barrel staves, and the dining room’s exposed brick walls provide background for historic distillery photos.
