The Boston outpost of chef Jean Joho's Brasserie Jo is almost as popular as the Chicago original. Emitting the vibe of a true brasserie (a confluence of bistro and beer hall), the room is a bright jumble of brass, banquettes and mirrors, edged by a bar that attracts grazers and quaffers at all times of the day. The minute you sit down you are served a fresh baguette in a wrapper and seasoned carrots, a fun touch. The Alsatian-style menu has something for everyone. Gallic staples such as croques monsieur and tartes flambées offset elegant platters of raw fruits de mer. Classic steak frites and coq au vin are matched by soul-warming rituals like tableside profiterole service. Daily specials are always a treat and the wine list, which also emphasizes Alsace, is especially food-friendly. Late-night diners will appreciate a full late-night bar menu available until 1:30 a.m., rare for Boston. |
