Some of the finest breads in the Southland are being created here by French boulanger Eric Kayser, whose Maison Kayser shops are a Parisian signature. There are a handful of high tables with stool seats in the front window, as well as tables on the wide sidewalk. At breakfast, the stars are omelets, accompanied by fresh-baked bread, along with assorted pastries and croissants. At lunch, try the delicate cucumber soup with buckwheat bread or the Brie salad with walnut bread, or any of a variety of sandwiches. Chef Noriyuki Sugie creates a small-plates dinner menu with Spanish and Japanese influences. Dishes include bruschetta with eggplant and Angus beef and black cod sliders. Larger plates are also available, such as scallops and short ribs. Don't leave without a loaf for later; try the hazelnut bread, robust multigrain sourdough loaf or perhaps some of the assorted rolls. Among sweets, consider a bittersweet chocolate-hazelnut tart or individual-size cherry clafoutis. |
