Brick Oven Cafe Restaurant Review: A good source for classic Italian American cooking, Brick Oven shows much of its kitchen's soul in the lusty character of the sauces. The marinara is simple, flavorful and thoroughly satisfying. So are the veal piccata, spaghetti carbonara and vegetarian minestrone. Pastas are definitive, in both taste and execution. Eggplant shows up frequently and to especially good effect in the appetizer eggplant rolatine. Pizzas are traditional with golden brown, thin crusts. The wine list features California and Italian selections, and any one of several hearty reds goes nicely with the aforementioned marinara. This is also one of the few places in this part of town where you may order a hand-made cannoli for dessert, although the tiramisu is a formidable rival. Booth seating is preferable to the uncomfortable iron patio chairs at the other tables. There are enough tins, jars, garlic braids and pictures scattered around to decorate another restaurant or two, but clutter is part of the charm. |
