Brick Oven Cafe Restaurant Review: Brick Oven Café is arguably the last stop for authentic Italian cooking before you leave the New Orleans metro area. The marinara is simple, flavorful and thoroughly satisfying. So are the veal piccata, spaghetti carbonara and vegetarian minestrone. Pastas are definitive, in both taste and execution. Eggplant shows up frequently and to especially good effect in the appetizer eggplant rolatine. Traditional pizzas show off golden brown, thin crusts. Try the hand-made cannoli for dessert, although the tiramisu is a formidable rival. California and Italian labels form the wine list, which offers several hearty reds that would go nicely with the aforementioned marinara. Booth seating is preferable to the uncomfortable iron patio chairs at the other tables. There are enough tins, jars, garlic braids and pictures scattered around to decorate another restaurant or two, but clutter is part of the charm.
